The composition of abrasive particles and binder used in Japanese SHAPTON stones remains the manufacturer's secret. However, based on certain indications, it can be assumed that their composition, especially for the SHAPTON Pro series, is not a simple combination but rather composite structures. An exception may be the very first stone in the SHAPTON lineup – the SHAPTON Coarse Stone White, which is an abrasive white-colored block with a grit size of 120.
SHAPTON positions its products primarily as abrasives for sharpening blades and woodworking tools made from exceptionally hard, high-carbon steels. In contrast to many other Japanese manufacturers of abrasive tools, SHAPTON develops its stones taking into account the characteristics and needs of both Japanese and Western products.
All Shapton Pro stones have a thickness of 6 mm and are mounted on high-quality aluminum bases.
Stone size – 150x22 mm.
