The composition of the abrasive grain and binder in Japanese SHAPTON stones is a closely guarded secret of the manufacturer. However, based on some hints, one can assume that both components, in most cases, for the SHAPTON Pro series, are not simple but rather complex compositions. A possible exception might be the introductory stone in the SHAPTON lineup – the SHAPTON Coarse Stone white, representing a white grit block with a 120 Grit.
SHAPTON emphasizes that its products are primarily designed for sharpening blades and carpentry tools made from particularly hard steels with high carbon content. Unlike many other Japanese abrasive tool manufacturers, SHAPTON develops its stones, taking into account the characteristics and needs of both Japanese and Western products.
All Shapton Pro stones have a thickness of 6 mm and are mounted on high-quality aluminum bases.
Stone size – 150x22 mm.
