Hapstone sharpening stones come in standard dimensions for machine sharpening - 152x25x6 mm and are designed for use with Hapstone sharpeners. Crafted from abrasive silicon carbide grains on a ceramic bond, these stones can be used with either water or oil, although the use of water-soluble cutting fluids is recommended as per the manufacturer's guidelines. Due to the unique properties of the abrasive and bond, the stones are versatile and suitable for processing various materials, including different types of steel.

All stones have a thickness of 6 mm and are mounted on high-quality aluminum blanks with laser engraving.

Hapstone stones perform exceptionally well when working with hard steels exceeding 60 HRC, especially high-alloy steels (high-speed, vanadium) and powdered steels.

    The stone set includes:

The set includes 5 stones with grit sizes F120 and F220 for initial operations, F600 for sharpening, and F1000/2500 for honing. The grit sizes of the stones adhere to the FEPA standard.

    Characteristics

The grinding stones have a firmer bond compared to sharpening and honing stones. Stones with grit sizes F600 and F1000 actively produce a suspension during operation. Hapstone stones maintain their shape well, effectively retain cutting fluid and do not require frequent water additions. Residue buildup is easily removed by rinsing under a stream of water. The stones exhibit a sufficiently high working speed, albeit slightly lower than Norton Crystolon or Boride CS-HD stones.

The Hapstone stone set constitutes a comprehensive tool for sharpening, enabling the execution of all essential operations: initial grinding (including creating bevels from scratch, altering the sharpening angle, and restoring the cutting edge), sharpening, and honing. However, for initial tasks, it is recommended to use diamond or carbide stones with coarse grit (e.g., 200/160 microns). This significantly extends the lifespan of the grinding stones. For final honing operations and enhancing the result achieved after the F1000 grit, natural stones (Brazilian slates, Slovakian sandstones, Guanxi stones, etc.) or ultra-fine ceramics like Spyderco Ultra Fine can be employed.

The maintenance and storage process for Hapstone stones are similar to other ceramic-bonded sharpening stones. Stone leveling is performed on glass with silicon carbide powder, and it is advisable to store the stones in wooden boxes.

    How to use

HapstoneSilicon Carbide Stones are preliminarily lapped and does not require lapping after purchase.

Silicon Carbide Stones are recommended to be used with water as a lubricant. Soak the stone for 1-2 minutes and splash water on the stone's surface to prevent drying.
