The Green Shadow and Black Shadow are natural slate sharpening stones designed for finishing razors, knives, and fine woodworking tools such as gouges and chisels.
Both stones come from a private family quarry in France where several types of slate with different grain structures are found, allowing the production of the complete Shadow series.
Approximate grit: 8000–10000
Green Shadow is a dense and hard finishing stone with slightly softer feedback compared to the Black Shadow. It provides noticeable tactile feedback on steel and produces a refined edge suitable for finishing razors, knives, and precision tools.
Approximate grit: 12000–15000
Black Shadow is a very dense and hard slate finishing stone. It provides an extremely fine finish while maintaining a smooth, velvety sharpening feedback rather than a glass-like feel.
Both stones can be used with slurry created using a small piece of the same stone. The slurry should be produced with only a small amount of water. Excess water may cause a suction effect due to the hardness of the stone.
Using slurry provides faster sharpening and produces a slightly hazy finish on the edge.
Using the stone with clean water allows a brighter polishing effect. Glycerin or oil may also be used to obtain a more uniform finish.
It is possible to switch between oil and water use, provided the stone is thoroughly cleaned beforehand.
