The sharpener is excellent. It's compact and works well. There was a problem with the abrasive clamp, but Hapstone fixed it.

When I received my sharpener, I was struck by how well it was packaged. You could immediately tell they put a lot of care into it, which is very nice, and I personally find this important. When I assembled the sharpener, there was 1 clamp that did not fit properly over the rail, the tolerance was too small. I send a message to hapstone and immediately received a message back from Mario that he would deliver a new clamp. These things can happen and were resolved immediately. This is an excellent service and you get a quick answer to your questions, thanks especially to Mario for that. Now, about the sharpening itself, I chose the standard version with the optional angle adjustment and the advanced stone holder. The sharpener itself is very compact, but don't be put off by its size; it feels very solid. Almost everything is made of metal except for the cylindrical support section. In my case, this is ideal, as I usually sharpen in an unheated garage, where that area feels less cold, and I sometimes hold the sharpener there while sharpening. Clamping the knives works reasonably well, but be careful not to loosen the bolts to much when releasing the knife, otherwise the nut will fall out. You also have to be careful, depending on the blade type and sharpening angle, that you do not hit on the clamp itself with the stone. Maybe in the future I will experiment with the clamps for the R2 .The magnetic rod holder works very well and won't easily come loose during sharpening. With the advanced stone holder, you do have to be careful not to overtighten the clamping of the sharpening stone itself; you'll notice that the movement is much smoother. I've sharpened various knives ranging from kitchen knives to pocket knives, and all with good results. I'm very satisfied with my purchase, and also the fact that if there's a problem, they'll definitely help.

Very very nice fixed angle sharpener. Superb price for the quality you get. Needs some little extra add ons to make it unbeatable for the price. The angle gauge and The knife protector pads are key essential. Constant perfect angle control and not damaging your knifes is key.

The system seems good, but it is quite expensive. I have concerns about the knife clamp screws. I'm not sure they will maintain their strength after repeated use. Unfortunately, the digital angle gauge was out of stock. It took 3 follow-up emails with reminder and 5 days just to be told it won't be available until October 17th. Definitely not a great experience in terms of responsiveness.
Easy to assemble and when i got hang of it easy to change angles and stones.

Solid system. Ball can get a little 'graunchy' at times and needs a clean... Only issue is the nuts on the underside of the clamps don't fit 'flush', so are proud and end up getting ground down on certain knives or lower bevel angles... (after the flip) Still very happy with hardware and some modding will make it perfect 👌

The Hapstone RS is a real nice device. It could benefit from a few improvements though. First off i would change the screws in the clamp that hold the knife to Torx, for me these Allen screws are a bit too flimsy. Secondly, i would have it come with the Angle Gauge and proper Allen Tools ( in my case proper Torx) and not these cheap ones it is delivered with today without an extra cost. Maybe have a Distance made so the clamps come out a bit further. Already experienced that a long blade hit the stand when i turned the knife over and that lead to a mounting point that i wasn't happy with since the geometry became all wrong. Besides that i got no complaints really. Only had it a few days so i might or might not discover more stuff down the line.

It's a long time I wanted to buy this. Finally pulled the trigger. It's a very nice solid system. Everything fits well, everything is good quality. There is only 1 plastic part a huge screw for the vertical shaft, and I honestly think it should be metal. Other than that, it is very good and precise. Gives very good results with little experience. Highly recommended

It provides a better grip against the base and stays secure during sharpening, even when there’s vibration. That material choice helps keep the system stable and precise. The Hapstone RS is an excellent sharpener. The RS is better than a lot of more expensive units out there It’s capabilities can be expanded with a wide array of attachments. My hapstone RS was lost by ups and the excellent support at Hapstone was going to send me another except the package was found and all ended well. Hapstone responded to all my messages and assured me that my package would be found or they would send me another. That’s what I call service.
